Mini-Medical University for Teens
Mini-Medical University for Teens
For the fourth year in a row, Memorial Hospital’s Ambassador Services Department plans to offer a one-of-a-kind learning experience for high school students 15-18 who have an interest in medicine. This action-packed, hands-on experience will include lectures from clinicians in specialty areas, labs, exposure to a clinical unit and service within Memorial. Mini-Medical University 101 is a full-day, weeklong experience.
Mini-Medical University for Teens was held for the first time in the summer of 2009. The pilot program proved a huge success, resulting in a long waiting list for the 2010. Class sizes were limited to ensure an exceptional learning experience. This fantastic opportunity was offered again in the summer of 2011. At this time, we do plan to offer Mini Medical University 101 in the summer of 2012. Class size will again be limited, so be sure to contact us to have your name placed on the waiting list for information. As soon as it is available, information will be emailed to those on the waiting list. This will occur the of beginning of February 2012. Please note, if the session(s) fill before information is released to the public, there will be no additional signups. Last year the majority of spots filled within one week, primarily with students on the waiting list. Being on the waiting list does not ensure that students will make it into Mini-Medical University for Teens; it just ensures that all available information for the program will be sent via email as soon as it is compiled.
Students who successfully complete Mini-Medical University for Teens 101 are also eligible to interview for a volunteer position at the hospital. Due to privacy laws and other requirements, only high school students who attend Mini Medical University are eligible to volunteer while in high school.
Only students who have successfully completed Mini-Medical University for Teens 101 and who are still in high school are eligible to attend the advanced Mini-Medical University for Teens 201. This one-day session will be offered again during the summer of 2012 (extremely limited number of spaces).
