Pediatric Patient Care Center
Welcome
to Memorial Hospital's Pediatric Patient Care Center! We are pleased
to have the opportunity to serve you and your family,
PATIENT SERVICES
The
Pediatric Patient Care Center serves patients from the age of 2
days to 16 years. More than 800 children and their families are
cared for in the Pediatric Unit each year and more than 200 in the
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
The
Pediatric Unit staff care for children with a wide variety of medical
and surgical diagnoses including: asthma, pneumonia, dehydration,
influenza, diabetes, respiratory illnesses, seizures, fevers, infections,
bone fractures, and surgical procedures such as appendectomies and
hernia repairs.
The
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit staff care for children who require
close monitoring due to severe illnesses or injuries from accidents
such as, near-drowning, auto accidents, and head injuries. Specialized
staff in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit also serve on the area's
only mobile intensive care unit - a group of specially designed
ambulances which travel to other area hospitals and transport critically
ill children to Memorial for treatment.
UNIQUE
FEATURES:
The
Pediatric Unit is designed with children in mind. Bright colors
and anautical theme run throughout the unit. A playroom
is available 24 hours a day for children's play with families
and staff.
- Open
visitation for patients is from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Siblings
and friends may visit with an adult. After 8 p.m., one parent
may spend the night in the room with the patient.
The
Pediatric Care Team includes registered nurses, a pediatric dietitian,
social worker, respiratory therapists, clinical nurse specialists,
pastoral care, and pediatric specialists in physical therapy.
Our medical staff includes the area's only board-certified pediatric
hematologist oncologist and two pediatric intensivists (physicians
who specialize in caring for critically ill children).
- The
Pediatric Unit features the Ketogenic Diet Research Center for
Pediatric Epilepsy. Our specialized staff work in conjunction
with the area's only pediatric neurologist, to provide a unique
approach to the management of epilepsy in children.
- Infant
and Child CPR classes through the American
Heart Association are offered monthly for parents and caregivers.

- Our
Pediatric Outpatient Clinics include specialized "one-stop-shopping"
for patients with cleft lip and palate and pulmonary diseases.
These clinics are coordinated by Beth Ann Shoup, RNC.
The comprehensive evaluation and treatment planning for children
includes appointments with the nurse practitioner, physicians,
surgeons, dentist, social worker, respiratory therapists, and

Memorial's
Pediatric Emergency Transport Team
is the area's only on-site dedicated pediatric ambulance and crew.
The team's nurses, respiratory therapists, and paramedics serve
18 referral hospitals in 11 counties, transporting critically
ill children from outlying areas to the Pediatric Intensive Care
Unit.
- North
Central Indiana Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Clinic, a unique
partnership with Riley Children's Hospital, offers comprehensive
services to children in northern Indiana with sickle cell anemia,
leukemia, hemophilia, cancer, and other blood disorders. Our on-staff
physician, nurse practitioner, social worker, nurses, and parent
advocate work in collaboration with Riley Hospital to provide
outpatient treatment and services for children. For further information,
