Memorial Orthopaedic Neurosurgery

To Make Your Stay As Comfortable As Possible

For your stay with us on 8 South, you will want to bring certain things with you to help us give you the best, most comfortable care possible:

  • A list of the medicines, and dosages, that you take at home
  • Toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash and any other articles needed for mouth/denture care
  • Bath soap if you are allergic to Safeguard soap, which is provided on the unit
  • Brush, comb and any other hair care products you may wish to bring
  • Hand or body lotion, powder, cosmetics or shaving products
  • A robe
  • Slippers with non-skid soles
  • Nightgown or pajamas, which may be used the second day after surgery
  • Recreational items such as reading material, a small craft project, crossword puzzles, etc.
  • If you have a walker, bring it with you or have someone bring it in for surgery

If you and your doctor have plans for you to go to the rehabilitation unit, bring the following:

  • Sturdy, low heeled shoes
  • Comfortable clothes that are easy  to slip on, such as sweatsuits, jogging outfits, etc.  NOTE:  It is NOT necessary to buy new clothes or shoes.  Wear whatever you feel comfortable in
  • Socks
  • Underwear
  • Hair products (shampoo, curlers, hairspray, etc.)

Do Not Bring:

  • Large amounts of money (we suggest you keep no more than $5.00 in your room)
  • Credit cards, check book, or jewelry (you may keep your wedding ring on, if you wish)
  • TV or radio - these are provided in your room
  • Any valuables
