Ductogram
The ductogram is a procedure that may be performed if you note a discharge from the
nipple. It involves the insertion of a tiny, blunt cannula into the affected duct identified by the radiologist. A special x-ray dye is then injected into the duct. Mammogram films are taken to determine if the duct is blocked or dilated.
You may feel little to no pain when the needle is inserted, although you may feel pressure or temporary discomfort when the dye is injected.
A ductogram cannot be performed if there is no discharge that can be expressed by the radiologist at the time of your scheduled procedure. Also a diagnostic mammogram should have been performed prior to scheduling the ductogram appointment.
