Memorial Regional Breast Care Center

What should I expect on my first visit?

You will sign in as you come into our suite. The admitting staff will ask you for your insurance card, a picture ID and physician order, if indicated and it was not faxed to our office prior by your physician. (Screening mammograms do not require an order, but diagnostic exams need a physician order.) You will be called back to the dressing area to change into a gown.

Lockers with keys are provided for your belongings. You will be directed into a smaller waiting area after changing. A nurse or technologist will take a brief medical history if it is your first time, or update your history if you have been with us previously.

Our nurses can do clinical breast exams or breast self-exam teaching, if needed. The technologist will take your digital mammogram and if you are a screening you will be able to leave after your views are taken. The radiologist will read your mammogram later that day, your physician will receive a report and you will receive a letter with your results.

If you are here for a diagnostic exam, the technologist will take your views and then show them to the radiologist while you wait. If the radiologist recommends additional views and/or ultrasound it will be done and your results given to you before you leave. Your physician will get a report and you will still be mailed a letter regarding the results of your mammogram.
