National Injury Prevention Programs

Think First for Kids

  • Presented in a classroom format
  • Each grade (1-3) has a separate curriculum w/ activities designed for its grade level
  • Activities integrated into math & science
  • Educates students about activities which place them at risk for brain or spinal cord injury
  • Consists of 12-minute culturally diverse video & 5 safety modules
    • Vehicular safety
    • Water Safety
    • Bicycle Safety
    • Violence
    • Sports/recreational safety
  • 5 safety modules supplemented with hands-on activities & reinforcement strategies
  • An evidenced-based, fun, meaningful experience for students in grades 1-3, teachers, parents and the community
  • GOAL: To help students develop safety habits that will minimize their risks of sustaining a brain or spinal cord injury

Think First for Teens

  • Upbeat program educates high school students about personal vulnerability & risk-taking
  • Message is "You can have a fun, exciting life, and you can do it without hurting yourself if you "THINK FIRST" and use your mind to protect your body"
  • Brings an understanding of the causes & results of injuries to the brain & spinal cord & addresses strategies for prevention
  • Presentation includes participation of a brain or spinal cord injured person who shares real-life experiences w/ teens
  • Goal: To reach those most vulnerable to brain, spinal cord & other traumatic injuries with a powerful prevention message
