Education
The Memorial Leighton Trauma Center is committed to providing continuing education
for physicians, nurses, allied professionals, and pre-hospital care providers
in our region.
Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
The Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLST) course, a continuing medical education
program, teaches established standards of trauma care and practical life saving
skills. The course is designed for physicians treating trauma patients in emergency
or surgical settings.
The initial assessment and management of specific types of injures are presented
to participants through lecture and slide presentations. The two-day course
also includes laboratory work and unique skill stations. At each station, the
instructors demonstrate specific techniques and supervise participants' practice
of the skills in simulated situations.

Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
The TNCC provider course is designed to provide the core trauma knowledge
and psychomotor skills required to deliver professional nursing care to the
trauma patient. The content is presented through lectures and psychomotor skills
stations. The target audience is comprised of RNs interested in improving their
trauma nursing skills. It is recommended that participants have 6-12 months
experience in the emergency setting. (Other health care providers may audit
the course).

Trauma Grand Rounds
Trauma Grand Rounds, an interactive program, is designed to foster the development
of a regional trauma care system by creating a forum for multi-disciplinary
discussion of trauma care topics. The usual format includes a case discussion
and formal presentation by a guest speaker. Trauma Grand Rounds is open to
all providers of trauma care including EMS providers, emergency physicians,
surgeons, anesthesiologists, other medical specialists, nurses, and allied
health professionals.
There is no fee for the program.

Annual Trauma Symposium
Each annual trauma symposium focuses on topics around a centralized theme.
Internationally known trauma experts provide current information on the care
and management of the trauma population. The symposium is designed for trauma
surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, emergency medicine physicians,
anesthesiologists, nurses, allied health, and EMS personnel involved in the
care of the trauma patient.
