Comprehensive
Continuum of Care
Memorial Regional Rehabilitation Center provides a continuum
of care consisting of inpatient and outpatient services
that promote optimum levels of physical independence and functional
ability. Additionally, psychological, social, vocational, educational,
and economic adjustment issues are addressed as part of this continuum
of care.
Interdisciplinary
Professional Team
An interdisciplinary team of allied health professionals works together
under the purview of a physician. Together the team assesses and
treats each patients needs and goals. Team members confer
regularly throughout the treatment program to assess how well the
program is meeting patient, family, and team goals. Along with the
patient and family, the interdisciplinary team can include any combination
of the following professionals, depending on the unique therapeutic
need(s) of each patient:
- Physiatrist (physician
that specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation)
- Speech and language
pathologist
- Occupational
therapist
- Physical therapist
- Rehabilitation
social worker
- Neuropsychologist

Professional
Staff
The Centers professional staff are all board certified, licensed,
or registered in their specialty area. They receive yearly additional
training and professional development in their respective specialty
areas to stay abreast of current and emerging developments in their
area of training and practice. Memorials rehabilitation staff
have an average of eight years of clinical, hands-on experience.

Inpatient Rehabilitation
Specialized treatment programs serve the range of inpatient
needs, including:

Outpatient Rehabilitation
Outpatient services are provided at Memorial Hospital Main Campus,
at Memorial Leighton HealthPlex in downtown South Bend, and at the Lighthouse Imaging Center in Granger. Outpatient
rehabilitation services treat a full range of patient problems and
disabilities.

- Pediatrics (Located in the 100 Navarre Building adjacent to the hospital)
- Burns and wounds
- Swallowing disorders
- Voice therapy/Laryngectomy

- Orthotic and
prosthetic clinic
Outpatient rehabilitation
available at the Memorial Leighton HealthPlex includes:
- Driver rehabilitation
- Brain Injury

rehabilitation (stroke, spinal cord injury, and other neurological
disorders)

musculoskeletal rehabilitation

Accreditation
Memorial Hospital of South Bend is accredited by the Joint Commission
on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO). Memorial
Regional Rehabilitation Center has been accredited by the Commission
on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) since 1987
for comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation and brain injury programs
(community integrated) and outpatient medical rehabilitation.
Committed
Staff at Memorial Regional Rehabilitation Center are committed to
serving the community and the disabled population. We are involved
with many events each year, including prevention programs for area
elementary and high school students, evaluation clinics, and support
groups. Professional staff are also active in the Stroke Survivors
group, the Michiana chapter of the National Spinal Cord Injury Association,
and the Laryngectomy Support Group. Staff also make regular presentations
to community groups on preventing falls, arthritis, stroke, head
trauma, the effects of aging and exercise, orthopaedic rehabilitation,
and other topics of interest.
