Welcome to Memorial’s Newborn Intensive Care!

Something to Smile AboutMemorial’s Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a 36 bed unit providing comprehensive level III care for newborns with medical or surgical needs. Over 400 newborns born at Memorial or transported from other regional hospitals by NICU’s transport team are admitted to NICU each year. Memorial’s NICU is the regional referral center for north central Indiana and a portion of southwestern Michigan.

Memorial’s NICU is internationally recognized as a leader in developing the optimal environment of care for babies, families and staff.  The NICU does this by actively participating in national and international data bases and research.

The NICU staff is made up of board certified neonatologists, pediatricians, neonatal nurse practitioners, registered nurses, respiratory therapists, lactation consultants, discharge coordinators, a developmental specialist, a social worker and a parent care coordinator.  The staff are dedicated to improving the lives of infants and their families.

Memorial’s NICU has the mission of providing family centered care.  This involves working efficiently as a team to provide newborns and their families with medical, nursing and social resources necessary to maximize each baby’s potential for growth and development and to fully integrate the family unit into the community.
