Requirements

To begin the volunteer process at Memorial Hospital of South Bend, you will need to attend two orientation sessions. Sessions are offered several times throughout the year; please see the Orientation Dates list for the next available session. Eligible volunteers must be at least age 18 to volunteer at Memorial Hospital.

It is time-consuming and expensive to process and train exceptional ambassadors. Because of this, we do request that you commit to a minimum of six months or 40 hours of time to become a volunteer at Memorial Hospital of South Bend. Most volunteer shifts range from three to four hours weekly. Some of the additional requirements and/or completed paperwork needed to volunteer at Memorial Hospital of South Bend include:

  • Completed application
  • Negative TB test (administered within the last year, or we will administer during orientation at no charge)
  • MMR and Varicella vaccination or history of chicken pox (we will supply paperwork for blood tests if no records are available)
  • Submit to background check
  • Signed Performance Essentials
  • Confidentiality statement
  • Safety quiz
  • Photo consent (optional)

Other requirements will be reviewed at orientation and include abiding by Memorial Hospital's Code Of Conduct (Performance Essentials).

We will provide the required paperwork at Session I of orientation. After completion of both Session I and Session II of orientation, and once we have all the necessary paperwork completed and back in our office, we will begin your orientation in the department to which you will be assigned. The volunteer position is fun and exciting, and it is greatly appreciated by the patients, visitors and staff of Memorial Hospital. We look forward to welcoming you as a smiling, friendly and caring ambassador to Memorial Hospital of South Bend!
