Augmentative Communication
Highly specialized services are provided for adults and children whose speech and/or written skills do not meet their interpersonal communication needs. Assessment, training and follow-up services are provided based on the educational, vocational, and personal goals of the person served, family and/or care givers. Computer access and environmental control units are used to improve independence and enhance receptive and expressive communication. A speech and language therapist provides this service based on referral by a physician. The program is located at the Leighton Healthplex, at 111 West Jefferson in downtown South Bend.
