Three Local Women Honored with Spirit of Women Awards
March 3, 2011 - Memorial Health System proudly announces the winners of the 2011 Spirit of Women Awards. This awards program honors ordinary women who do extraordinary and selfless things to benefit their community. These individuals each represent the unsung heroes of our society in their own unique ways.
Actor Joshua Morrow, who plays ‘Nicholas Newman’ on “The Young and the Restless,” will present these women with their awards during the 2011 Expo for Women at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 5, at the Century Center.
Kim Becker – Community Hero
Kim is the founder of Hello Gorgeous of HOPE, Inc., a non-profit that provides free professional makeovers and cosmetic education to any woman battling any type and stage of cancer. Kim and her team work out of a 34-foot mobile day spa, which travels to clients across the community. Kim is a selfless and dedicated woman, sister, wife and friend, and an amazing role model for all who meet her.
Hannah Montgomery – Young Person Role Model
Hannah is extremely dedicated to helping others. She volunteers at Memorial Hospital’s Ronald McDonald Family Room. She created the “Dash to Read” program, in which she and her Border Collie, Dash, encourage elementary school students to read. She is an honor student at Niles High School and a recipient of three Presidential Academic Achievement Awards.
Jill Ross – Healthcare Hero
Jill serves as a Speech/ Language Pathologist at Memorial Hospital, specializing in patients who have trouble swallowing. She goes above and beyond to treat each patient with dignity and respect, spending countless hours with their families over and above her work hours to help guide them back to mental, emotional and physical health.
All three winners are also candidates for the National Spirit of Women Awards. If selected as a national winner, these women will represent Memorial Health System at the National Awards Celebration this summer.
