Sunburst Expo Features Hall of Fame Marathoner Bill Rodgers
One of the nation’s most renowned marathoners, Bill Rodgers, will be part of this year’s Sunburst Expo, taking place on Friday, June 3 at the College Football Hall of Fame. Rodgers will speak at both 12:15 and 4:30 p.m. about running and fitness, and he will be available to answer questions and for book and autograph signing on the gridiron. This will also be the final day for race and walk registration.
Rodgers, winner of the Boston, New York, and Fukuoka Marathons, was ranked at the top of the Track & Field News’ lists three times, and he was inducted into the National Track & Field Hall of Fame in Indianapolis in 1999.
All participants who register before Friday, June 3 will receive a t-shirt. Runners may see Rodgers on the route as he takes part in the 10K Sunburst Race, which begins at the College Football Hall of Fame at 7:45 a.m. on June 4.
Sunburst also hosts a full and half marathon, 10K and 5K run, 5K fitness walk, and family fun walk on the same day. For those who may not want or be able to participate in the races and walks, there are also volunteering opportunities. The Sunburst Races began in 1984 and are sponsored by the South Bend Tribune, Memorial Hospital, WSBT TV and WSBT Radio Group. They occur each year during the University of Notre Dame’s Alumni Reunion weekend. For 28 years running, Sunburst has inspired individuals and the community to strive for health and fitness.
