Local Athletic Trainer Named CCAC Trainer of the Year
Amy Heiby, ATC, Memorial Sports Medicine Institute’s Head Athletic Trainer at Holy Cross College, was voted the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Athletic Trainer of the Year for 2011-2012. Amy currently oversees all 10 teams and nearly 150 student-athletes at Holy Cross College.
"Receiving this award means a lot to me, I feel very thankful to have such an acknowledgment and appreciation for what I do for athletes and coaches," said Amy.
"After 45 years in athletics, I have never seen an Athletic Trainer as dedicated to her athletes as Amy," said Holy Cross College Director of Athletics Bob Schermerhorn. "She always goes the extra mile, which in her case is far above what is required. She treats her athletes as if they were a part of her immediate family."
Amy has set up yearly in-house sports physicals, teaches yearly CPR/AED/FA classes for coaches, students, and faculty, hosts biannual blood drives, and gives sports injury prevention seminars to educate coaches.
Another Memorial Sports Medicine Institute professional, IUSB athletic trainer Kara Werner, won this prestigious award last year.
