Green Stream Makes 2011 Sunburst Healthier Than Ever
This year’s Sunburst promises to be healthier than ever – both for participants and for the environment. Green Stream, a solid waste sustainability service based in Elkhart, will be handling all of the waste management of the 2011 Sunburst events.
Green Stream, which began in 2008 and serves five states and Canada, works with organizations to reduce both their high-volume recyclables (such as cardboard and plastics) and their low-volume recyclables (such as wood products, tape or drywall). Participating organizations have been able to achieve 97 percent landfill diversion rates for the same or less cost than traditional waste processing.
Since Sunburst incorporates a convention-style event, the Sunburst Expo on June 3, and the June 4 competitive and noncompetitive walks and runs, it needs a service that can process a wide variety of waste. Green Stream offers that solution. From the Expo and starting line at the College Football Hall of Fame to the end on the hallowed ground of the University of Notre Dame football field, there will be recycling options available.
Sunburst began in 1984 and is sponsored by the South Bend Tribune, Memorial Hospital, WSBT TV and WSBT Radio Group. It occurs each year during the University of Notre Dame’s Alumni Reunion weekend. For 28 years running, Sunburst has inspired individuals and the community to strive for health and fitness.
