BMX Bike Stunt Show Part of 2011 Sunburst Expo
The weekend before the opening of BMX bike pro and South Bend native Brett “Mad Dog” Banasiewicz’s new skate facility on the west side of the city, members of his BMX team, Solution Action Sports, will participate in the Sunburst Expo on June 3 at the College Football Hall of Fame. This will also be the last day for registration for the June 4 races and events.
Banasiewicz, a relative newcomer on the BMX circuit, has quickly become a sensation in the field. Not wanting to travel to North Carolina for training, he has committed to practicing his sport and sharing his enthusiasm with the South Bend community. His team’s participation in the Sunburst Expo is one more example of this local commitment.
The Expo kicks off the annual Sunburst weekend, particularly the June 4 events: the full and half marathon, 10K and 5K runs, 5K fitness walk, and family fun walk, all of which begin at the College Football Hall of Fame and end on the 50-yard line of the University of Notre Dame Football Stadium. For those who may not want to participate in the walks or runs, volunteers are always welcome.
The Sunburst Races began in 1984 and are sponsored by the South Bend Tribune, Memorial Hospital, WSBT TV and WSBT Radio Group. They occur each year during the University of Notre Dame’s Alumni Reunion weekend. For 28 years running, Sunburst has inspired individuals and the community to strive for health and fitness.
