2nd Year - Class of 2013

Cameron Beck, M.D.

My name is Cameron Beck, and my wife Laura and I hail from the great state of Utah, though I am originally from the town of Burley in the slightly greater state of Idaho. Laura and I met at Brigham Young University while I was finishing my B.S. in Neuroscience and stayed on for a M.S. in Physiology and Developmental Biology. I subsequently attended our rival University of Utah for medical school and found it to be not as evil as I had previously thought. Laura and I have three little Becklings, Colin (5), Ella (3), and Will (16mo). My down time is generally spent with my family, with whom I enjoy local parks, video games, and impromptu dance parties. Personally, I enjoy cooking, reading, exercising, and tinkering with technology. Looking to the future, I plan to return to the West to practice in an underserved rural area as I begin my career, then see where my path takes me from there. I am excited about residency at Memorial where I expect a rigorous curriculum with plenty of hands-on experience to prepare me for the challenges of life as a rural family physician.

Ryan Foreman, M.D.

My name is Ryan Foreman and I grew up in Marion, Indiana. I completed my undergraduate work at Ball State University where I studied Biochemistry and Consumer Finance. I stayed put for my first two years of medical school at Indiana University School of Medicine, Muncie (satellite campus) before spending my clinical years at the main campus in Indianapolis. My older sister serves as a professor and Head Athletic Trainer at Manchester College, which sparked my interest in sports medicine. When searching for a residency program, I was looking for top-notch sports medicine training while providing a solid background in all aspects of family medicine. Memorial not only provides this, but also provides ample opportunities for procedural training, and a chance to learn from highly-qualified faculty who are eager to teach. In my free time, I enjoy running and watching sports, especially Michigan football, Butler basketball, and the Indianapolis Colts. Also, one can’t grow up in Marion without a passion for watching high school basketball.

Adam Houghton, M.D.

My name is Adam Houghton, and I grew up in the small town of Havana, IL. I completed my BA at Augustana College in Rock Island, IL, where I met my lovely wife, Marie. I attended medical school at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, where we spend our first year in Carbondale (beautiful wine trail country) and our last three years in Springfield (Land of Lincoln). I looked at many programs and felt that Memorial was the perfect fit for us.I was impressed by the scope of the program and the friendly faculty and residents. I am interested in the broad spectrum of traditional family medicine with a special interest in sports medicine. In my spare time,I enjoy reading books and watching movies (mostly fantasy and sci-fi), hanging out with my wife (much to her delight),spending too much time and money at used bookstores searching for said books (much to her dismay), and using parentheses (apparently). I also love running and am working on getting back into the swing of it after an extended hiatus over the last couple years of medical school.

Marion Mahone, M.D.

Hello all! My name is Marion and I am originally from Detroit, MI. After going to Harvard University and obtaining a B.A. in psychology, I came back to the Midwest and attended medical school at University of Michigan. I like to do a variety of things in my spare time, ranging from dancing and theatre (both watching and participating), to watching movies, to intramural sports, to relaxing with my parents and sister, to traveling...the list goes on and on because I am almost always up for trying new things. I am excited about Memorial because of the incredibly strong and varied experiences in the program, along with an incredibly warm and dedicated faculty. After residency, I would like to pursue full-spectrum family medicine in an underserved area, and also teach and mentor students.

Bryan Mason, M.D.

My name is Bryan Mason, and I am originally from the small Utah town of Aurora. I completed an associate’s degree at Snow College in Ephraim, Utah, followed by a bachelor’s degree in Biology at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. My time at Snow College was interrupted by a brief two year church mission to Brazil. I have spent the last four years in the Green Mountains completing my medical training at the University Of Vermont College Of Medicine. My beautiful wife Natalie and I are making the move to South Bend with our three children, Niah, Chloe, and Bennett. Over the years I have considered myself an avid sports fan, mountain biker, and outdoor enthusiast, and occasionally enjoy the opportunity to participate in such hobbies with my wife and kids. My medical interests include sports medicine and community education. I am also intrigued by rural medicine and the notion of caring for an entire community. I am excited to have the opportunity to train at Memorial alongside a group of wonderful residents and outstanding faculty. Ultimately, my choice to train at Memorial was based on having the opportunity to train with people who are “my kind of people.”

Gerald Morris, Jr., M.D.

Hi, my name is Jerry. As a native of the South Bend/Mishawaka area, I am thrilled that I’ll be completing my training at Memorial Hospital and serving the community that I grew up in. After graduating from Mishawaka High School, I received my B.S. in biological sciences from IU South Bend and obtained my medical degree from IU School of Medicine. My wife, Kristin, and our children Brianna (10), Tyler (6), and Gavin (3 months) enjoy spending our free time outdoors, especially camping and visiting zoos. We also love to travel. Our favorite family vacation spots, so far, are Disney World and the Smoky Mountains. I am also interested in history, genealogy, playing and watching basketball, and just spending time with my friends and family. My professional interests are focused toward preparing for a career with Indian Health Services. I chose Memorial because of its outstanding faculty, supportive hospital system, great residents, and challenging, well-rounded training experiences that include many procedural opportunities. I am truly looking forward to becoming part of the Memorial family.

Justin Smith, M.D.

Hello everyone! I am originally from Monroe, a rural town in central Utah. I received a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and my most recent educational stop was the University Of Vermont College Of Medicine. I moved to South Bend with my wife Ariane and our three children: Clayton, Noah, and Josie. I am a huge Cubbies fan and love playing sports and other outdoor activities including barbequing (mmmm). My medical interests include women's health, medical education, OB, skin surgery, and preventative medicine. I chose Memorial because it had everything I was looking for in a residency program: no other residencies, huge volumes of both adult and pediatric patients, tons of OB, electronic records, advanced procedural training, and most importantly; kind, supportive faculty that are dedicated to my success as a family physician. If you are considering Memorial for residency,I encourage you to come spend some time with us!
