1st Year - Class of 2014

Amy CorriganAmy Corrigan, D.O.

Hi my name is Amy Corrigan, and I am from the small town of Charlotte, MI. From there I went to Albion College where I was fortunate to play varsity volleyball and run varsity track while pursuing my bachelor of science in biology. After completing my undergraduate degree, I accepted a job with the Michigan State Police as a forensic scientist. However, I soon realized my calling was in medicine, so I left my job to start medical school at MSUCOM in East Lansing. It was the best decision ever. My medical interests include sports medicine, particularly with endurance athletes, osteopathic manipulative medicine and international medicine. Up to this point I have been able to practice medicine in Malawi, Africa, and hopefully I will have many more international opportunities, which is another reason why I chose Memorial Family Medicine Residency Program. After rotating with Memorial, I instantly felt at home with the faculty and other residents. I knew that my learning opportunities would be endless here, and this was an environment that promoted individual and professional growth. When I am not working in the hospital, you will hopefully find me out training for triathlons or cheering on my favorite team––MSU Spartans.

Brian DoyleBrian Doyle, M.D.

Though I hail from the great state of Michigan, Indiana has become a second home over the years. I spent my formative years in Traverse City, MI and Novi (a suburb of Detroit) before attending college at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, IN. I studied English and minored in biology, chemistry and mathematics. I returned to Michigan to attend medical school at Wayne State University in Detroit, where I have lived for the last four years (Go Tigers!). I love sports and regularly participate in softball, basketball, cycling, volleyball and golf. I also enjoy relaxing with recreational games such as horseshoes and cornhole. I still love to write, and I relax most evenings with a good read. I’m interested in the full spectrum of family medicine, especially OB, pediatrics and sports medicine. I chose Memorial because of the well-balanced, established program, the quality of the residents and the opportunity for international experiences.

Matt ReedMatt Reed, M.D.

Hi everyone! My name is Matt Reed, and I come from Champaign, IL. I completed my undergraduate education at Southern Illinois University Carbondale where I studied physiology. I then attended medical school at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, taking my first year of courses at the Carbondale campus and spending the last three years in Springfield, IL. After seeing the program here at Memorial, my choice became clear. Everyone here is extremely helpful and friendly. The program is committed to technological advancement, and there are unique opportunities in the areas of procedural training and sports medicine. When I’m not working, I enjoy spending my time working out, reading and watching sports (I’ve been a huge Illini fan from birth). I have many other hobbies and pick up new ones all the time.

Kari SearsKari Sears, M.D.

Hello! My name is Kari Sears, and I grew up in Lancaster, PA, best known for outlet shopping and Amish country! I studied biochemistry and molecular biology at Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA, and then headed south to Wake Forest University School of Medicine. In looking for a residency program, I was very impressed with Memorial’s strong training in all aspects of family medicine. I was searching for a program with solid broad-spectrum training, a great sports medicine program, dedicated and interesting faculty and a hospital that valued family medicine. Memorial fit what I was looking for perfectly! My medical interests include sports medicine, adolescent medicine and international health. I like to spend my free time running, cycling, hiking, cooking, and I love to participate in most sports. I also love to travel! I’m looking forward to making Memorial and South Bend my new home.

Yung SimYung Sim, M.D.

Hello, my name is Yung Sim, and I am from Michigan City, IN. I received my Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University in Bloomington and my Master’s of Science from IUPUI. I attended Saba University School of Medicine, which allowed clinical training in various regions of the United States. However, it is great to be back home again in Indiana near my family. Athletics have always been an important part of my life, therefore sports medicine was a great fit for me. I feel fortunate to become a part of the Memorial Family Medicine Residency Program. In addition to the outstanding sports medicine training program, I was impressed with the broad training offered by an accomplished staff. I hope to add to the great tradition of excellence at Memorial. In my spare time I love playing and watching sports. I am a huge fan of movies and television, yet I prefer being active outdoors. Next is to add Notre Dame football to my list of hobbies.

Tina SmithKristine Smith, M.D.

Hi, my name is Tina Smith. I’m an Army brat who was born in Honolulu, HI. Over the years I’ve lived in Germany, Texas, Minnesota, Washington, Italy, West Virginia and most recently, Michigan. I’m the second youngest of seven kids and an aunt nine times over. I earned my undergraduate degree in biology at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA, and I studied abroad in Florence, Italy for a year. After graduation, I spent a few years in Morgantown, W.V. where I volunteered at a local hospital and met my fiancé, Brandon. I graduated from University of Michigan Medical School. My medical interests, like family medicine, are quite broad. I enjoy women’s health, international medicine and preventative medicine. While at Michigan I participated in a maternal mortality research project in Ghana––an experience that has fueled my desire to work in the international community. The opportunity to work globally, a broad-spectrum training, a community setting and excellent faculty are some of the many reasons I chose to train at Memorial. In the rare periods of downtime, I like to run, play with my puppy Finn, read, cook, travel and digital scrapbook.

Stephanie WaldropStephanie Waldrop, M.D.

My name is Stephanie Waldrop, and my husband, Mike, and I are both from a small town in upstate South Carolina. I completed my undergraduate degree at Clemson University (Go Tigers!), majoring in mechanical engineering. Following graduation, I got married, moved to Charleston, S.C. and started medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina in six very hectic weeks. I greatly enjoyed living in Charleston among the tourists and splitting my time between the beach and school, but I am looking forward to August and a slightly less humid environment! In my free time I enjoy traveling abroad, listening to audio books, going to movies, waterskiing and hanging out with my husband and pets. Additionally, my husband and I are expecting our first baby in September so we may have a little less free time on our hands in the future. I chose Memorial because I felt that it would provide great training to practice in a rural environment. I also loved the sense of family and community among the residents at Memorial. This was important to my husband and I, as we have no family outside of the Southeast. Hopefully, someone in the Memorial family will help us learn to drive in the snow, as we don’t get much of the white stuff in South Carolina!
