Older Adult Services

We believe seniors, their families and caregivers deserve education, assessment, consultation and treatment services that meet their unique needs. The Inpatient Older Adult Unit of Memorial Epworth Center offers programs to address many of the issues that affect daily living for adults 60 and older, including:

  • Age-related changes in function and cognition
  • Grief and loneliness
  • Dementia (including Alzheimer’s Disease)
  • Depression and anxiety
  • Marital, family and social problems

The Inpatient Older Adult Unit is one of the nation’s first specialized facilities dedicated solely to the mental well-being of older adults. At the core of our care team are highly trained, board-certified psychiatrists, nurse practicitioners, registered nurses, neuropsychologists, therapists and mental health technicians each working closely with patients, their families and medical care providers to develop each patient’s full potential.

Diagnostic services for the Inpatient Older Adult Unit are located in one state-of-the-art facility featuring:

  • 24 acute care psychiatric beds
  • Evaluation of patient’s medical and psychiatric problems
  • Inpatient crisis intervention and stabilization
  • Comprehensive discharge planning
  • Memory care/neuropsychological testing
  • Physical, occupational and recreational therapy
  • Medication assessment and management
  • Family and caregiver support services
  • Care coordination with skilled nursing facilities and community caregivers
