The onset of mental illness is often an unexpected situation that severely impacts the patient and those who care for him or her. In some cases, mental illness is a chronic condition that needs various levels of medical intervention. The Inpatient Adult Acute Unit of Memorial Epworth Hospital is designed to offer accurate and prompt diagnosis and treatment to help the patient and his or her family return to a mentally healthy life. Our specially trained psychiatrists lead a team consisting of nurse practitioners, registered nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, recreational therapists and mental health technicians to develop a treatment plan tailored to the mental and physical needs of each patient.
