Support groups can have many benefits. Even though a lot of people receive support from friends and family, the No. 1 reason they join a support group is to be with others who have similar cancer experiences. Research has shown that joining a support group improves quality of life.
Support groups can:
- Give you a chance to talk about your feelings and work through them.
- Help you deal with practical problems, such as problems at work or school.
- Share hints for dealing with side effects of treatment.
Memorial Regional Cancer Center provides many programs on site in addition to working with many groups around the region. Some groups are specifically designed for women, and some are geared towards men. These groups are an excellent opportunity for you to meet with others who are in similar situations.
