Exploring the Special Features of Sudden Death, Trauma Loss and Suicide Grief

Purpose:
This informative seminar helps members of the caregiving community develop their knowledge and skills in helping the bereaved. Dr. Wolfelt will explore a variety of subtopics related to understanding and supporting survivors of sudden, unexpected deaths.
Who Should Attend:
This seminar is designed for: physicians, nurses, social workers, counselors, educators, psychologists, hospice personnel, clergy, chaplains, lay ministers and others caring for bereaved people.
Objectives:
- Discuss definitions of trauma loss
- Describe the concept of “limited space”
- Review the ripple effect of loss from trauma
- Describe the foundation of a “companioning” model of caregiving
- Explain caregiver contamination
- Define soul work vs. spirit work
- Review special features of sudden, violent death
- List special features of suicide grief
- Define concept of disenfranchised grief
- Describe four subcategories of “complicated” mourning
- Identify three needs of mourning
- Review the transformative nature of grief
