Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the test offered?

The Memorial MyScan program is located in 100 Navarre Place at the corner of Michigan Street and Navarre next to Memorial Hospital in Suite 5510. There is free, covered parking in the 100 Navarre Place Parking Garage. For detailed directions to Memorial click here.

Do I need to prepare for the MyScan test?

There is no special preparation for your MyScan test. You will not have to disrobe; however, you should not wear clothing with metal items above the waist such as clips on a bra. There are no dietary restrictions for the test. Women who are or who may be pregnant may not have a MyScan test.

What happens during the test?

MyScan is fast, quiet and painless. Once you have been checked in by our receptionist, you will be escorted to the testing suite and will be asked to simply lie on the scanning unit. You will be asked to hold your breath for a few moments during the test. The entire process usually only lasts 15-20 minutes.

How will I get my results?

Once your scan is completed, it is held for review by Board-Certified Radiologists on staff at Memorial Hospital of South Bend. The physician will prepare a report of your results which will be mailed directly to you and to the personal physician you name at the time you schedule your test. The results will be sent to you within 5 business days of your test. Most patients will then review their report with their personal physician. If a medical problem is detected, your MyScan report will outline the nature of the problem and indicate the necessary medical follow-up.

If you want to gather additional information about specific medical conditions related to your scan results, you may call or visit the Memorial Health Discovery Center where registered nurses are available to help you understand medical terms, gather health information or research various health topics. The Health Discovery Center is open Monday-Friday from 9 am-7 pm and is located in the same building as the MyScan facility. They can be reached at (574) 647-6880.

How do I pay for the MyScan test?

As a screening test many health insurance companies do not cover the cost of a MyScan test. Payment is made at the time of the test with either cash, credit cards or personal checks. If you feel your health insurance carrier might cover the cost of the test, we will give you the documentation you need to file a claim with your insurance company.
